Clore Social receives £498,744 National Lottery grant to be a facilitator for leadership
Clore Social Leadership has been awarded £498,744 of National Lottery funding through the Big Lottery Fund to be a facilitator for leadership in the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector in England. Engagement is at the core of this initiative where the benefits of leadership development will be highlighted to address the sector’s leadership needs.
The funding will be distributed over three years with a focus on four key work streams: engagement, insight, guidance and innovation. These priorities were identified following our 2016 survey of 500 VCSE leaders which found that though leaders understand the importance of theirs and their staff’s leadership development needs, many struggle to invest in them due to insufficient time and money, and a lack of clarity about the best training options.
To help bridge this gap we will utilise our experience of developing social leaders by diversifying our offering to reach even more of the country’s 1.1 million VCSE leaders. We will bring together leaders of all levels in peer learning groups across England to facilitate conversations about generous leadership, and to promote collaborative learning.
The sector’s leadership needs will be further supported through research to quantify the impact of leadership development and to identify areas of need; best practice will be highlighted to promote excellence in leadership; and data will be used to develop and test new leadership approaches. Digital solutions will be fully integrated within the work streams to ensure that the traditionally underserved portions of the sector benefit from a cadre of up-skilled leaders.
Our Chief Executive, Shaks Ghosh, said, ‘Leadership is for everyone - from CEOs in large organisations to managers of local peer-led community groups. We want to stimulate engagement in leadership so that the sector is equipped to lead and drive change.
‘This grant from the National Lottery is incredibly exciting. It means we can reach more organisations with appropriate offerings to ensure our sector thrives and has the best leadership to support their beneficiaries and the wider community.’
Dawn Austwick, Chief Executive at Big Lottery Fund, added: ‘We are proud to be supporting Clore Social Leadership in its work to develop leadership skills across the voluntary sector. Thanks to National Lottery funding, the project will build a strong network of leaders who can share their experiences.
‘We’re working with organisations of all sizes to enable greater collaboration and generosity in leadership across the sector.'
