Deborah Smart is Head of Programmes (Grants) at the Social Investment Business (SIB), one of the largest social investors in the UK. She has worked at the Social Investment Business for over seven years, and worked within the Investment Performance team before moving into the management of SIB's grant programmes
As Heda of Programmes she leads on delivery of SIB’s Investment Readiness Grants, alongside delivery of other grant-only programmes which together have totalled around £120m. She is passionate about the potential that social finance and investment has for the social sector.
Prior to joining SIB Deborah spent time working in the hospitality industry and the private sector, before beginning to work in social finance when she joined The Social Enterprise Loan Fund in 2005.
In 2012 Deborah completed an MSc in Voluntary and Community Sector Studies at Birkbeck College, having undertaken research on social enterprises created by employees spinning services out of the public sector. Deborah also volunteers for a small broadcasting charity in Essex.
