Programme timeline

October 2022

Following acceptance onto the programme, Experienced Leader kicks off with a learning day and induction on Friday 14 October. There will be an additional learning day the following week commencing 17 October. These two sessions will in part lay the foundations of the programme, as well as Clore Social Leadership's Social Capabilites Framework and Leadership Development Model.

October will also kick off the first of four coaching sessions that each participant will receive. Coaching sessions are delivered one-to-one and spread over the course of the seven-month programme so that regular progress and updates can be made between each coaching session.

November 2022

The second month of Experienced Leader begins with Action Learning Sets. Action learning is a tool designed for leaders to learn from other leaders. It uses the combined wisdom and skills of a diverse group of people to work through real situations they face in the workplace.

On Monday 14 November, participants will attend the 360 Degree Review Webinar. Coaching will also continue for those who couldn't meet in October. The month culminates with the third learning day.

December 2022

Peer Learning Circles kicks off on Tuesday 6 December. For many of our Clore Fellows, the Peer Learning Circle is one of the main ways you will learn on the programme, as you discuss and your cohort discuss the challenges you have been facing in your roles.
There is a designated festive break at the end of the month. However, this may also be an opportunity for those who have fallen behind to catch-up.

January 2023

Experienced Leader kicks off the new year with continuation of the online modules, Action Learning Sets, and Coaching Sessions.

There will also be a follow-up Peer Learning Circle on Wednesday 18 January, giving you the chance to reflect on the lessons you've learned from the initial session.

February 2023

A new month, a new learning circle! The Peer Learning Circle takes place Wednesday 22 February. The rest of the month focuses on more online learning modules, coaching sessions, and Action learning Sets.

March 2023

Wednesday 22 March will be the fourth and final Learning Day. This will be a chance, in part, to discuss the implementation of the three previous sessions.

ALS and personal coaching sessions continue throughout March 2023.

April 2023

April 2023 concludes the final online learning module for our participants. The final coaching and ALS sessions will also come to an end in April.

There will also be a Peer Learning Circle for the week commencing 17 April 2023.

May 2023

There will be a final Learning Circle for participants on Wednesday 10 May. This will be participants final to officially discuss their struggles and challenges in leadership.

Experienced Leader officically draws to a close Thursday 25 May with a Celebration Event. This will be your chance to celebrate your fellowship with peers and facilitators. However, it is not the end of your leadership development journey. As a Clore Social Fellow, we will remain in touch with learning opportunities and support unique to our fellows.

Our methods

The programme learning will be guided by Clore Social Leadership’s Social Capabilites Framework and Leadership Development Model. Using our Leadership Development Model (below), you will learn how and what these skills and behaviours look like in action, where your strengths and areas of improvement lie, and how you can develop and encourage them in yourselves and others. Using our Social Capabilities Framework (below), you will be guided to develop inspirational, empowering, courageous, focused, passionate and generous leadership capabilities - qualities essential to any effective leader.

Know Yourself, Be Yourself, Look After Yourself

Leadership development must start with self-awareness. The most successful leaders critically assess their strengths, weaknesses, motivations and values. Leadership is tough, so it is also important to build physical and emotional resilience, and look after their own wellbeing so they can respond effectively to leadership challenges.

Assess Context

Social sector ‘systems’ are rapidly changing. We live in a dynamic world that is transforming our workplaces, politics, ethics and communities. To meet these demands, social leaders need to understand the complexities of changing systems. They must also be aware of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead to steer their teams and organisations, and make the most of what these changes offer.

Work With And Through Others

No leader exists or succeeds in isolation. Social skills and empathy are required to inspire, motivate and empower others, whilst respecting diversity and celebrating the power that difference brings. Working with and through others involves collaborating, forming partnerships, as well as inspiring and growing other leaders, all while making a positive social impact.

Social Leadership Capabilities Framework

Being a social and ethical leader require certain capabilities. The Social Leadership Capabilities Framework outlines the attributes, behaviours and skills required for successful social sector leadership. The Capabilities Framework illustrates how and what these skills and behaviours look like in action. Having a framework enables leaders to reflect and assess their current skills. Frequently Asked Questions

No, you don’t need to have any particular academic or professional qualifications to take part in the programme. We know that leadership development training can be very difficult to access in the social sector, so try to make it accessible to those with minimal prior training. Your passion for and experience in the social sector are all you need to apply.

We classify the leadership experience required to meet the programme eligibility as professional, in-sector experience. This may have been accrued at different points throughout your career, at different organisations and can be paid or voluntary. Emerging leader applicants should be able to display at least six years of such experience. If your experience falls outside of these criteria, but you feel you are otherwise well suited for the programme, let us know why your experience is relevant and transferable in your application.

As a Clore Social Fellow, you will join a large network of social sector leaders from across the UK. Opportunities to connect with local fellows and continue learning will be supported, encouraged and facilitated wherever possible. We are always developing new programme offerings, and may have something of interest to you in the future, so keep in touch, and let us know if you have any ideas, or want to develop something with us for your organisation.

We currently aren't offering bursaries for this programme. Should we offer bursaries for any of our Guided Programmes, they will be announced via our fortnightly newsletter.

If you have any questions, please email us at programmes@cloresocialleadership.org.uk. This email address is checked three times a week, so please expect a response time of 48 hours.
