What our previous participants sayOutcomesThe Greggs Foundation Emerging Community Leader programme is designed to help emerging leaders of small community projects and organisations strengthen how they lead themselves, work with others and create practical change in their organisations. Through a focused residential, Lumina Spark insight, Action Learning Sets, interactive workshops and guided organisational planning, participants will develop leadership skills that can be applied directly to the realities of community-based work. By the end of the programme, participants will have greater confidence, clearer leadership practice, stronger communication and collaboration skills, and a practical plan for improving how leadership is shared and sustained within their organisation.
Participants will develop a clearer understanding of their leadership style, strengths, behaviours and impact on others. Through Lumina Spark and guided reflection, they will recognise how they show up under pressure and identify practical ways to lead with more intention, confidence and care. Participants will strengthen their ability to communicate their vision, motivate others and build trust across teams, partners and communities. They will practise clear, grounded communication and storytelling that supports stronger engagement and more effective leadership. Participants will build practical skills to support others, improve team communication and encourage greater ownership across their organisation. The programme will help leaders move beyond carrying everything themselves and develop more distributed, sustainable approaches to leadership. Participants will learn how to assess their organisational and community context, identify priorities and make more confident decisions. They will apply strategic thinking to real challenges facing their organisation and leave with clearer actions to take forward. Participants will develop a practical organisational plan during the programme, identifying what they will apply, who they need to involve and what change they want to make. Each participant will be supported to implement at least one tangible improvement within their organisation. Participants will gain practical tools for approaching challenges creatively, testing ideas and making progress with limited time, resource and capacity. They will work on real issues from their own context and develop more confident, resourceful approaches to problem-solving. Participants will build trusted relationships with peers across the cohort and strengthen their approach to working with partners and communities. Through Action Learning Sets and shared reflection, they will leave with a stronger support network, fresh insight and renewed confidence to collaborate beyond their own organisation. Programme elementsOver four months, you will take part in a focused programme designed around the realities of leading a small community project or organisation. The programme combines a high-impact residential, Lumina Spark insight, Action Learning Sets, practical workshops and guided organisational planning. Each element is designed to help you step back, strengthen your leadership practice and apply your learning directly to your organisation.
The residential is the core part of the programme. Over an arrival evening and two days in person, you will build relationships with the cohort, explore your leadership style and focus on the challenges and opportunities facing your organisation. The residential will cover leading self, assessing context, strategy, collaboration, inclusive design and working with and through others. You will also begin developing a practical organisational plan, identifying what you want to apply, who you need to involve and what change you want to make. You will take part in three short online workshops, each focused on practical skills you can apply straight away in your organisation. The workshops will explore leading effective teams through coaching and communication, unlocking innovation in constrained environments, and strengthening communication and community building. Each workshop will include space to share what you have applied, work through real challenges and leave with clear next steps. You will join a small, facilitated peer group to work through real challenges from your organisation. Action Learning Sets provide a confidential space to reflect, ask better questions, explore options and identify practical next steps. These sessions will help you apply learning between programme activities, strengthen your problem-solving and build a supportive network with other community leaders. Lumina Spark is a psychometric tool that helps you better understand your leadership preferences, behaviours and communication style. You will complete your profile after the welcome session and receive a one-to-one coaching session before the residential. During the residential, you will explore your profile in more depth and consider how your behaviour shifts under pressure, how you relate to others and how you can strengthen your leadership and team relationships. Case studiesSeek to understand, think, and then respondThe Emerging Leader programme gave me so much more than I expected. When I plucked up the confidence to submit my application in the hope of expanding my narrow network in the military charity sector, I had no idea how transformative it would be, not only professionally but also personally. Learn MoreThe power of learning how to observe yourself and othersAt the start of the programme, I was unsure how to take the next steps in my career. I wanted to explore where I could make a true impact in a sector that I am very passionate about. The content of the programme really helped me to discover my leadership strengths, preferences and identify where these would be best placed in the sector to create sustainable change. Learn MoreA safe space to get to know others and better understand yourselfI’ve been asked to write a blog about my experience on the Clore Social Emerging Leader: Women and Girls Sector Programme – my limit is 700 words, but I’m not sure I can write the word “AMAZING!” 700 times over, so I’ll try and break down my experience a little more for you. Learn More#CloreSocialFellowFriday with Kylie HavelockThe first thing that comes to mind is the ongoing support and sense of community that I get from my cohort. We’re still in touch regularly, and it's been such a joy to get to know that group of people who I admire greatly. Even if it’s just having a phone call to have a chat about something, it can be so useful to speak to someone who’s outside of your organisation and has a new perspective. Learn MoreFrequently Asked QuestionsYour passion for and experience in the social sector are all you need to apply. You don’t need to have any particular academic or professional qualifications to take part in the programme. We know that leadership development
training can be very difficult to access in the social sector, so try to make it accessible to those with minimal prior training. We classify the leadership experience required to meet the programme eligibility as voluntary or paid experience leading people, projects or initiatives. This may have been accrued at different points throughout your career. If your experience falls outside of these criteria, but you feel you are otherwise well suited for the programme, let us know why your experience is relevant and transferable in your application. Those who successfully complete the programme will be invited to apply for a £5,000 grant to support the implementation of ideas developed during the course. Please read the Application Guidance word document before you apply for the programme. Many of the questions on the online application form require tick-box/dropdown box answers. However, there are several questions that require you to provide a written answer. We therefore recommend that you use this document to plan your answers in advance before completing the online application form, as the form will not save your answers, so you must complete it in one go! If you need any reasonable adjustments for the application process contact us at info@cloresocialleadership.org.uk. If you have any questions, please email us at info@cloresocialleadership.org.uk
.
We want to remove as many barriers as possible to support you to engage with this development opportunity. If you, or a colleague, need any reasonable adjustments please email us at info@cloresocialleadership.org.uk. Apply for the Greggs Foundation Emerging Community Leader programme |
