Outcomes

More productivity, focus, and confidence!

If we only pick areas of development that we find very difficult and boring, we’re unlikely to stick with the development work.

Taking ‘effort’ into consideration when prioritising helps pick areas of development you’ll actually stick with. Addressing these areas first can give you some quick wins and build confidence in your ability to develop ourselves as a leader. The Prioritise Your Development activity will help you to meet your career goals and become a more confident leader at work.

Get Started

Step 2

Set a timer for 15 minutes, and plot these skills on the 'importance-effort' matrix below. This is a quick exercise, so try not to overthink it!

  • Something you feel internally motivated to do
  • Something that just feels fun
  • Something that solves more than one problem
  • Something that doesn’t come naturally to you
  • Something that you don't enjoy
  • Something that is difficult to begin

Step 3

Take a step back and look at your Matrix. What feels of low importance and hard? You can ignore these things for now.

Instead, look at the top left corner of the matrix at the things that are really important but feel easy. This is where you should start.

Step 4

Take action! Identify 1-2 skills from that category you can focus on during the next month. Write those here, and they will be emailed back to you.

Step 5

Once you have started developing the skills from those categories, have a look at the top right corner of your matrix at the skills that are high value and high effort. These are also important to your leadership development in the long-run. Try to break these features into smaller, more bite-sized skills, and thinking about a plan to develop these as well.
