Programme learning

You will have the opportunity to learn from and interact with experienced leaders and practitioners. Their diverse perspectives and real-world insights are designed to challenge and inspire you. You will explore new ideas, sharpen your skills and uncover practical ways to tackle the challenges you face, helping you create a lasting impact in your work.

The final programme design will be published soon. Register your interest here to receive updates on the programme details and application dates. The learning areas below reflect the Leadership Lighthouses approach and the emerging needs identified for Birmingham.

The programme is expected to explore five main areas:

1. Knowing yourself as a leader: You will explore the foundations of your leadership, increase your self-awareness and reflect on how you lead in different contexts. This may include personality profiling, reflective exercises and facilitated leadership development sessions to help you understand your strengths, preferences and future leadership journey.

2. Strategic leadership and future thinking: The programme will support you to step back from immediate pressures and strengthen your longer-term thinking, visioning and strategic leadership. This will include space to consider the changing social and political context, the pressures facing communities, and the role of leadership in creating more hopeful, sustainable futures.

3. Sustaining yourself, your work and your legacy: Participants will explore what it means to sustain the important work of social change, including wellbeing, mental health, collective care, legacy planning and generational leadership. The programme will create space to consider what leaders are passing on to those who continue this work, including learned cultural ways of being, working and leading.

4. Collaboration, trust and peer learning: The programme will create space to build trust, strengthen relationships and learn with and from other leaders across Birmingham. This may include action learning, peer reflection and confidential spaces to explore real challenges, deepen understanding and identify possible ways forward.

5. Advocacy, storytelling and community influence: The programme will support you to develop confidence in advocacy and storytelling, helping you communicate the value of your work, influence others and share the realities, strengths and ambitions of the communities you serve.

The programme is expected to use a blended approach, combining in-person learning with online themed sessions. The design will be focused and manageable, recognising that many leaders and organisations are stretched for time and resource. In-person sessions are expected to take place in Slough and Reading.

Further details will be shared as the programme design is confirmed. Register your interest and we will contact you when the page is updated with applications details and further information.
