Our methodsThe programme will introduce you to the foundations of leadership development. Learn more about our Leadership Development Model and Social Capabilities Framework below. Know Yourself, Be Yourself, Look After YourselfLeadership development must start with self-awareness. The most successful leaders critically assess their strengths, weaknesses, motivations and values. Leadership is tough, so it is also important to build physical and emotional resilience, and look after their own wellbeing so they can respond effectively to leadership challenges. We live in a dynamic world that is transforming our workplaces, politics, ethics and communities. To meet these demands, social leaders need to understand the complexities of changing systems. They must also be aware of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead to steer their teams and organisations, and make the most of what these changes offer. Social skills and empathy are required to inspire, motivate and empower others, whilst respecting diversity and celebrating the power that difference brings. Working with and through others involves collaborating, forming partnerships, as well as inspiring and growing other leaders, all while making a positive social impact. Being a social and ethical leader require certain capabilities. The Social Leadership Capabilities Framework outlines the attributes, behaviours and skills required for successful social sector leadership. The Capabilities Framework illustrates how and what these skills and behaviours look like in action. Having a framework enables leaders to reflect and assess their current skills. It empowers them to identify leadership gaps and plan their personal and professional development.

Key datesApplication deadlineThe application deadline is Monday 6 September 2021, at 11:59pm. Be sure to submit your application early as places are limited. Moderation decisionThe moderation process will take place 7 - 14 September and applicants will be informed of the decision by 14 September 2021. Programme startThe programme will commence on 3 November 2021. The programme is expected to draw to a close around 1 April 2022. Frequently Asked QuestionsThe programme is best suited to those new in a management role or someone looking for a refresher. We recommend the programme to those with three years or less of management experience. It’s different from person to person but we suggest allocating 8-12 days throughout the duration of the programme. As with most things, the more you immerse yourself in the programme, the more you’ll get out of it. Yes. The programme is designed to be flexible to your schedule. Whether you manage people (staff or volunteers) or projects, this programme will be useful to you. We consider management to be any role where you are responsible for the delivery of a project and have to work with others to make
this happen. This might mean working with people inside or outside your organisation. In theory, yes, but this also depends on the nature and purpose of your role and department. Anyone working for a social purpose and passionate about social change (and is able to demonstrate that in their application) is encouraged
to apply. Yes, and please demonstrate the nature and purpose of your role and department in your application. Yes. In fact, a greater positive impact on an organisation has been noted when more than one individual has embarked on our programmes. Please submit your applications and our panel will ensure a fair and balanced moderation process. We also accept applications from those with minimal management experience. This could be managing projects or people. You can support them to reflect on and articulate their strengths, areas of improvement and aspirations in their
application. Once on a programme, participants are encouraged to 'commit and share', i.e. commit to put into practice the learning from the programme, then report back the outcome to their group for the benefit of everyone's
learning. You can support them to identify opportunities within their role to implement this learning. While you do not need permission or buy-in from your organisation, we have found that the support of an organisation can positively impact on the development of the individual, especially in terms of implementing learning. Dates and further information will be provided to participants on acceptance onto the programme (about six weeks before the programme starts). Applications are moderated based on a few key criteria, including: your ability to reflect and be open about your challenges and strengths; what you would like to gain from participating in the programme and whether this aligns
with the programme outcomes; and why this is the right time for you to take part in development. Please leave enough time to provide considered answers that are authentic, open and honest.
